The Gospel of Mary
Chapter 1
1. Mary, the servant of Jesus Christ and Apostle to the Apostles.
2. From Magdala, a town on the shores of the Sea of Galilee
3. It was the first hour of the day, and the sun was like a woman in that joyous minute pass her hour of travail
4. Unto us a day was given full of hopes, a day of rest, sanctified and named Sabbath.
5. Given to man for God's sake not because of the man that laboureth all the days of his life nor he that sits besides a pool of wine drunken to his soul.
6. And it came to pass, in those days having created everything, the creator rested from working having made all things beautiful even those things yet to come
7. He chose to refrain from working on the seventh day for all he wrought with his hands were perfect.
8. And it has been the tradition of the Jews to revere the sabbath unto this day.
9. Obeying the commandment of God as it is written in the law of Moses.
10. People make haste to the synagogue, to worship and to pray and to listen to priest read from the books of the prophets.
11. At the gates were those who sold and bought, many tables of moneychangers were scattered round about; and the seats of them that sold doves.
12. Also there was noise of animals of different kinds for there were pens of sheep, and of goats, and of cattles, at every corner.
13. Merchandise of every kind was bought and sold, for the merchants came from the east, and from the west, and from the north and from the south.
14. And things were sold in prices that profit both the seller and the buyer.
15. People from everywhere force themselves through the crowds of souls to the tables of the merchants of whom they want to make business with, as it were the dung from the animals swim through the air with a pleasant perfume and not stench.
16. Now therefore were there publicans moving from end to end, table to table, merchant to merchant, trader to trader, collecting taxes.
17. With countenance as that of a bride on her day when the bridegroom cometh for her.
18. The roaring of the crowd don't seem to get pass unto the courtyard of the temple today.
19. For it seemeth the priests and ministers must be fast asleep as it was only the echoes of the noise made at the gates that cometh out of the temple.
20. No Levi was found in the courtyard preparing sheep or dove for sacrifice.
21. No smoke seemeth visible.
22. For Jesus had returned in the power of the Holy Ghost unto Galilee with much fame he came unto Nazareth where he had been brought up.
23. He was the one inside the synagogue that taught whose teaching marvel the whole congregation.
24. And has quietened the Pharisees, and the Sadducees, and the priests.
Chapter 2
1. He asked the minister that the book of the prophet Isaiah be brought to him and it was delivered unto him;
2. And when he had opened the book, he went to the place where it was written, and he read out loud to the people.
3. The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.
4. And he closed the book, and he gave it again to the minister, and sat down.
5. And the eyes of all them that were in the synagogue were fastened on him.
6. And he began to say unto them,
7. This day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears. And all bare him witness, and wondered at the gracious words which proceeded out of his mouth.
8. And they said among themselves, is this not the carpenter's son whose mother is called Mary.
9. Jesus knowing their thoughts answereth them not, until when he was done teaching he returned unto them:
10. And he said, Verily I say unto you, No prophet is accepted in his own country.
11. But I tell you of a truth, many widows were in Israel in the days of Elijah, when the heaven was shut up three years and six months, when great famine was throughout all the land;
12. But unto none of them was Elijah sent, save unto Sarepta, a city of Sidon, unto a woman that was a widow.
13. And many lepers were in Israel in the time of Elisha the prophet; and none of them was cleansed, saving Naaman the Syrian.
14. And all they in the synagogue, when they heard these things, were filled with wrath,
15. And they all rose up, and threw him out of the synagogue, and out of the city. For his time hath not come they killed him not for blasphemy.
Chapter 3
1. Whether I came from the loins of Balaam, as my forefather I cannot tell; Whether I inherited it or it was given to me when I was still a suckling thou canst not tell.
2. But this one thing I remember;my quest for knowledge and power was beyond the vengeance the blood of Abel seeketh.
3. It was beyond the manner at which the hart panteth after the water brooks.
4. As a damsel I had the beauty of Venus. And it runs through my veins.
5. My silky hair glows like a halo and it flows like a stream of river through to my waistline;
6. When I'm fetching water at the well at the dawn of the day and the wind blows towards my face, my hair spreadeth its wings that blossoms like that of a butterfly that flieth towards a meal on the petals of a flower.
7. My eyes were like the sun with her twin sister.
8. My nose was like the crescent moon but sharp and then straight horizontal beneath.
9. My mouth was like unto half of the sun that setteth at the west. My lips were like a thread of scarlet.
10. My speech as a damsel was like the whistling of the wind, with rainfall that cometh with it when bruised.
11. My cheeks were comely with rows of jewels, beneath it.
12. My neck is the shortest palm tree of the palm family; with chains of gold and of beads round about it.
13. My skin is fair as that of new born that the sun have not looked upon;
14. As a rose among thorns so I was among my sisters.
15. Walking through the streets of Magdala is like unto the dawning of a new day, as the sun riseth upon the Sea of Galilee.
16. I was possessed with the spirit of divination, which brought my parents much gain by soothsaying; from two years.
17. I know what anyone that cometh to me thinketh in his heart. And no secret of men was hidden from me.
18. I could move a rock against the head of anyone who thinketh evil of me.
19. I was the fairest as well as more intelligent than my peers. And no man teacheth me a thing; because I know what they want to say before sayest they it.
20. On the night I turned a score old, my father saw how I was being possessed with more devils, and had the legion, sitting, and clothed, and in my right mind:and he was sore afraid.
21. He held me down unto the bed for I floateth upon the air in the room.
22. As he tried pulling me back unto my bed, his hands were burned, and the bones melted away.
23. To his death he had no wrist.
24. My mom ran into the room and turned blind and dumb for three years.
25. My maids turned leprous at the same hour they saw me, and were thrown out through the window to their death by the wind that cameth out of my mouth.
26. The moon traveled until it rested in between the earth and sun, at that same hour my eyes lit up with fire that was as hot as a furnace.
27. All along I was floating in the air with legs crossed.
28. Screaming till there was left in me no voice.
29. As my voice left so fadeth away my strength.
30. When the moon traveled pass the sun I fell to the ground on my face.
31. And there cameth a strong wind that pushed the clouds to Magdala that night.
32. There was rain as has never being before, and will never be.
33. And it came with snow and strong sea winds and the town became cold.
34. And there was an earthquake, and the earth carrying the foundation of our house openeth its mouth; and it swallowed our house.
Chapter 4
1. How I came up from the pit I knoweth not.
2. But it was six days after, pale and weak;I appeared at the sea shore. Skin white as snow. And I beareth the strength of a paper. Being pushed towards the land by the waves of the sea.
3. For the first time in my life I felt powerless. Oh they left me. I said unto myself, sobering. I prayeth they return. For all the devils left me. They thought I had perished.
4. I lay by the sea for another day and half.
5. Seven of the devils came back unto me. I knew it was them. I smiled and used my tears to wash my face. So few. I saidest unto myself, and I wept;
6. Until a man came to me and took me to his place. I closed my eyes for shame for I was naked. He fed me, like I was his own or he knew me. When I opened my eyes it was my uncle. He beseeched me not to go outside, for the people of the town seeketh to kill my whole family.
7. For a year my father and my mother refused to come see me. It was my uncle and his wife that speaketh to me of Jesus.
8. Every time I try killing them with sorcery it worketh not.
9. I felt rather powerless and helpless and ill.
10. All I could do was think.
11. I thought about all that happened before that night.
12. I had read thousands of books by looking at their covers; I breathe in knowledge like the air man breatheth.
13. I had used curious art since my childhood and I had books upon books stored in my right mind: as farmers store crops after harvest.
14. For I meditated upon them day and night.
15. I know thousands of millions of spell. But useth only those that profited withal.
16. In the night of my nineteenth birthday a night hawk flieth to my window and droppeth a piece of scroll on my window. The scroll was wrapped with a thread of scarlet. And was a palm long.
17. On the scarlet was written rather faintly in the language of the Romans. To be opened on your twentieth birthday.
18. As I tried opening the scroll there came a fierce wind out from the window that pusheth me to the other side of my room.
19. The scarlet thread tied back the scroll and the wind lifted up the scroll and placed it on my bed.
20. The scroll has been on my bed ever since then. No man seeth it save me.
21. It was in evening of my twentieth birthday, it openeth itself on my lap. Thus, I floated in the air like an eagle.
22. With the winds of the air as my wings, and with twain wings I did fly.
23. Each letter in the book meaneth a devil, as I read through pass each letter so does the devil in that letter cometh into me.
24. My head was heavy as I readeth;but it was as honey in my belly and like unto vinegar in my bowels.
25. My quest for knowledge and power made me read through the scroll in a minute.
26. When got to the last letter on the scroll it was when the moon was in between the earth and sun. I could not hear anything, but saw one like my mother walking through my room, looking for a wall to cling unto. I saw also one like unto my father, weeping as unto woman in labour.
27. In a moment I refused saying the last letter, and started screaming that was when I lost my voice.
28. Without strength in me, it was like the wind returned my head unto the scroll. I closed my eyes tight but it roared out fire like a dragon, and my right mind read the last letter.
Chapter 5
1. And for four score days and ten days after my twentieth birthday was there a feast in Magdala and in the neighbouring towns.
2. For the people of the towns rejoiceth that I was no more. And they sought to kill my whole family but findest them not.
3. For they said I was a daughter of Beelzebub, others said I was the Great Artemis in flesh.
4. And have spiritually held captive the town since my birth;saith one of the Priests of the synagogue in the town.
5. But the merchants crieth, the goldsmith and silversmith who made big business of gold shrines and silver shrines they maketh for me.
6. Since I disappeared there have been no rain neither was there profits in all businesses.
7. Most people's charms that they bought from me had withered and ceaseth to work.
8. The rulers of those towns had been my footstool and it was them that hosted the feast with those that were oppressed when I was the other me.
9. Day and night my uncle and his family will pray for the day Jesus would come to Galilee. For their love for me astonished me even when at days passed I had sought for means to harm them but failed.
10. When they had knew I could not harm them they increased their love for me. I would keep silence most of the days but read their minds.
11. And doth marvel me how my uncle held Jesus in high esteem. And how he thought Jesus was greater than Beelzebub. And how he thought Jesus was the Christ.
12. My skin remaineth pale, my lips broken, my eyes almost white all through, with a strength as the bread I eateth everyday, I remaineth where I was unless someone cometh to carry me hither to the other side of the house.
13. I could not heal myself as I have being doing all of my life and as I have healed others. I was like unto him that hath leprousy.
14. All these made me eager to meet with Jesus for myself.
15. One Sabbath day, my aunt came back running from the synagogue right into the side of the house where I was; trying to cast a spell on myself; to heal myself; having tried four score and nine times.
16. She paused for she dareth not to stop me.
17. When I had turned onto her, cometh she to me, knelt before me, combing my broken and unkempt hair with her hands.
18. Telling me about Jesus; that he was in Capernaum, a city of Galilee, and had taught them on the sabbath days. And how many there were astonished at his doctrine:for his word was with power.
19. And in the synagogue, how he cast out the spirit of an unclean devil from a man.
20. Then cometh my uncle, asking me to go with him to Capernaum. I hearkened unto what he asketh.
21. And it came to pass we journeyed to Capernaum, when we got there it was the ninth hour.
22. We asked the people of the town about the whereabouts of Jesus, no one seems to be talking to us save one old man that crieth unto us that he was at Simon's house that he hast left the synagogue.
23. For all the sick runneth towards Simon's house. Those that could not walk were carried by their kinsmen; on their back or on a bed.
24. We arrived Simon's house when the sun was setting. Jesus had rebuked the great fever out of Simon's wife's mother. She now minister to them.
Chapter 6
1. And it came to pass that Jesus walked out of Simon's house and he walked towards them that were sick for he hath compassion on them.
2. All they that had any sick with divers diseases brought them unto him; and he laid his hands on every one of them, and healed them.
3. Now he was ruddy, and withal of a beautiful countenance, and goodly to look to.
4. His hairs on his head were like unto the mane of a lion.
5. The skin on his face shines like Arcturus. And the skin on his hands and legs like Pleiades.
6. His garment was more beautiful than the ones John the Baptist wore. It seemeth to be made of the clouds.
7. His sandals were fashioned like unto the one Moses the prophet wore;the day The Lord appeared unto him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush: and, behold, the bush burned with fire, and the bush was not consumed.
8. As the wind bloweth and toucheth the sail of a ship in the midst of the sea; so Jesus moved and laid hands on every sick that were there.
9. And the sick were healed and quickened as a ship in the midst of the sea that hast the wind behind it: and not contrary.
10. And my other eyes opened. And there was bright clouds all around the place.
11. Above it stood the seraphims:each one had six wings; with twain he covered his face, and with twain he covered his feet, and with twain he did fly.
12. And one cried unto another, and said, Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord of hosts: the whole earth is full of his glory.
13. And the posts of the door moved at the voice of him that cried, and the house was filled with smoke.
14. This is the living creature that I saw that day; and I knew that they were the of The Lord of Host. And it marvel me unto this day.
15. The sound of the cherubims' wings was heard even unto the Sea of Galilee.
16. Then I looked, and, behold, in the firmament that was above the head of the cherubims there appeared over them as it were a sapphire stone, as the appearance of the likeness of a throne. And they all sang in joy and bow before the majesty of Jesus as he walked.
17. I felt like a leper for I saw my filth because I have lived evil all the days that I have liveth.
18. And I fell to the grounds, and started shouting that He might come unto me, and wash me and lay his hands on me.
19. There was this battle in me, for my spirit fought against the seven devils that dwelleth in me.
20. I wanted Jesus to save me for it was like I was in a furnace. The heat I felt in my bones was as hot as the sun in his strength.
21. And lo and behold the devils restrained me. They forced me to the ground, and to my feet, and on my knees; back and forth.
22. My bones were heavy as a log and I rolled on the ground like unto the wheel of a chariot.
23. My blood was all over the place for my wounds were much. And the burnt.
24. As Jesus came unto me, my bones melted. I folded up my myself.
25. Behold, he cometh with clouds;
26. His head and his hairs were white like wool, as white as snow; and his eyes were as a flame of fire; 27. And his feet like unto fine brass, as if they burned in a furnace; and his voice as the sound of many waters.
28. And he had in his right hand seven stars:and out of his mouth went a sharp twoedged sword:and his countenance was as the sun shineth in his strength.
29. Only I saw these things that day.
Chapter 7
1. And when I saw him, I fell at his feet as a dead man's bones without sinews nor flesh.
2. And I moved like the way of a serpent upon a rock; for I prevailed not over the flames of fire that consumed me;
3. And I cried unto Jesus as he cometh to me: Thou Son of Man, have mercy on me.
4. He saith not a word unto me but he laid his right hand upon me.
5. And the devils came out of me, crying out, and saying, Thou art Christ the Son of God.
6. And he rebuking them suffered them not to speak:for they knew that he was Christ.
7. That same hour the seven devils left me; and winter came upon me. My feet were cold as snow and my stomach as the winter in its strength.
8. My pale face became as white as snow and it was stained with the rivers of blood that came out through my nose; and of my mouth; and of my eyes.
9. My tongue became as the desert of Sinai. And I was like unto a wounded beast in the wilderness taking in its last breath.
10. And out of my womb came ice and the hoary frost of heaven: it was like unto.
11. I was like whom that has been dead for a three years dying again the second time.
12. No spirit in my body.
13. And when Jesus passed by me, the hem of his garment touched my face and immediately there came unto me a new spirit and a new heart. And I was warm and whole that same hour.
14. The blood disappeared and was no more.
15. And I was hot as the summer.
16. And the strength of Samson came upon me.
17. Within me did I denounce Beelzebub for Jesus the Christ was far greater and more powerful. Indeed the Son of God and the LORD of Lords.
18. I wept sore for my evil deeds in the past and at the same time I was filled with exceedingly great joy for my deliverance and of the Lord's mercy.
19. The new heart given me was as flesh, for it was light. My former heart was that of a stone, it was heavy: heavy with wickedness and the ways of Beelzebub. That serpent.
Chapter 8
1. Verily, verily, that day was the longest day of my life. A day that was more than three days long unto me.
2. After my deliverance, I was as dusty as the dust of the ground The Lord God used to form Adam.
3. The air I breathed that day seemeth different. The air I breathed into my nostril was like unto the breath of life.
4. The Lord's spirit came upon me that day.
5. And for his wisdom and knowledge I thirsted after.
6. And his righteousness I hungered and thirsted after.
7. How many hours I spent on that ground I canst not tell.
8. But this one thing I was sure of, was that I was being made anew. And it felt so good to be made anew.
9. My tears flowed like a fountain, and soaked my dress like I was deep inside River Jordan.
10. But it was rivers of joy. And tears unto God for sending the author of life into this world of sin, and unto me that day.
11. And his deliverance and mercy he bestowed upon me. And for his comfort and Spirit and a new heart he gave unto me, freely.
12. And the crowd followed after Jesus, I was on the ground, no different from the dust that carried me.
13. Jesus delivered more people that were possessed of devils after me and healed many people of divers diseases and sicknesses that day.
14. My uncle came unto me and lifted me up from the ground.
15. And them that knew me said unto one another: is that not Mary Magdalene, the one possessed of devils that ruleth the whole country of Magdala. Others said: She's dead and gone, the earth opened her mouth and swallowed her that night.
16. My uncle covered me up with a black cloth, and took me into an inn.
17. After washing myself, I dressed up and came outside. I heard some people talk about Jesus, his disciples and the miracles he's done. And how he was close to his disciples, for they sup together, and travel together, and pray together. And went to the synagogue together. 18. And went about preaching of the kingdom of God that is to come, and preaching repentance and deliverance. He teacheth wisdom and there was no teacher as wise as he was.
19. No, not even Solomon in the days of his glory. For the saliva in his mouth is knowledge:and his teeth is wisdom;and his tongue power. And his mouth like the heavens and his words are the mind of God.
20. After hearing this things I ran to my uncle and said to him: I want to be a disciple of Jesus. I want to know him. I want to follow him, unto everywhere he goeth.
21. From that day I became a disciple to Jesus Christ. And I followed Jesus everywhere he went
22. And it came to pass afterward, that he went throughout every city and village, preaching and shewing the glad tidings of the kingdom of God:and the twelve were with him,
23. And I, Mary called Magdalene and Joanna the wife of Chuza Herod's steward, and Susanna, and many others, ministered unto Jesus of our substance.
Chapter 9
1. Then he called his twelve disciples together, and gave them power and authority over all devils, and to cure diseases.
2. And he sent them to preach the kingdom of God, and to heal the sick.
3. And he said unto them, Take nothing for your journey, neither staves, nor scrip, neither bread, neither money; neither have two coats apiece.
4. And whatsoever house ye enter into, there abide, and thence depart.
5. And whosoever will not receive you, when ye go out of that city, shake off the very dust from your feet for a testimony against them.
6. And they departed, and went through the towns, preaching the gospel, and healing every where.
7. The women who followed Jesus were left with him. There he taught us more about his kingdom that is to come; about his Father which is in heaven; and the will of his Father. We were all amaze at these things.
7. And the apostles, when they were returned unto him, told him all that they had done. And he took them, and went aside privately into a desert place belonging to the city called Bethsaida.
8. And the people, when they knew it, followed him:and he received them, and spake unto them of the kingdom of God, and healed them that had need of healing.
9. And when the day began to wear away, then came the twelve, and said unto him, Send the multitude away, that they may go into the towns and country round about, and lodge, and get victuals:for we are here in a desert place.
10. But he said unto them, Give ye them to eat. And they said, We have no more but five loaves and two fishes; except we should go and buy meat for all this people.
11. For they were about five thousand men. And he said to his disciples, Make them sit down by fifties in a company.
12. And they did so, and made them all sit down.
13. Then he took the five loaves and the two fishes, and looking up to heaven, he blessed them, and brake, and gave to the disciples to set before the multitude.
14. And they did eat, and were all filled:and there was taken up of fragments that remained to them twelve baskets.
15. The women that followed Jesus, gathered the twelve basket that remained. We went through the streets and gave bread and fish to those who were hungry; to every poor and to those that ask for alms.
16. After these things the Lord appointed other seventy also (of which I was among), and sent us two and two before his face into every city and place, whither he himself would come.
17. Therefore said he unto us, The harvest truly is great, but the labourers are few:pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he would send forth labourers into his harvest.
18. Go your ways:behold, I send you forth as lambs among wolves.
19. Carry neither purse, nor scrip, nor shoes:and salute no man by the way.
20. And into whatsoever house ye enter, first say, Peace be to this house.
21. And if the son of peace be there, your peace shall rest upon it:if not, it shall turn to you again.
22. And in the same house remain, eating and drinking such things as they give:for the labourer is worthy of his hire. Go not from house to house.
23. And into whatsoever city ye enter, and they receive you, eat such things as are set before you:
24. And heal the sick that are therein, and say unto them, The kingdom of God is come nigh unto you.
25. But into whatsoever city ye enter, and they receive you not, go your ways out into the streets of the same, and say,
26. Even the very dust of your city, which cleaveth on us, we do wipe off against you:notwithstanding be ye sure of this, that the kingdom of God is come nigh unto you.
27. But I say unto you, that it shall be more tolerable in that day for Sodom, than for that city.
28. Woe unto thee, Chorazin! woe unto thee, Bethsaida! for if the mighty works had been done in Tyre and Sidon, which have been done in you, they had a great while ago repented, sitting in sackcloth and ashes.
29. But it shall be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon at the judgment, than for you.
30. And thou, Capernaum, which art exalted to heaven, shalt be thrust down to hell.
31. He that heareth you heareth me; and he that despiseth you despiseth me; and he that despiseth me despiseth him that sent me.
32. And the seventy returned again with joy, saying, Lord, even the devils are subject unto us through thy name.
33. And he said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven. 34. Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy:and nothing shall by any means hurt you.
35. Notwithstanding in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subject unto you; but rather rejoice, because your names are written in heaven.
36. In that hour Jesus rejoiced in spirit, and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them unto babes:even so, Father; for so it seemed good in thy sight.
37. All things are delivered to me of my Father:and no man knoweth who the Son is, but the Father; and who the Father is, but the Son, and he to whom the Son will reveal him.
38. And he turned him unto his disciples, and said privately, Blessed are the eyes which see the things that ye see:
39. For I tell you, that many prophets and kings have desired to see those things which ye see, and have not seen them; and to hear those things which ye hear, and have not heard them.
Chapter 10
1. Christ Jesus spoke openly to the world and have always taught in synagogues and in the temples, where all Jews come together.
2. He taught with great wisdom and power. And for his words have authority and they have power. For there is life in them. Blessed are they that hear the word of God, and keep it.
3. To the public and the Pharisees and the Sadducees he taught in parables. He disproves the doctrines of the Pharisees and the Sadducees and of the Scribes. He corrected them with great authority and feared not. For they were full of hypocrisy.
4. For they were like unto whited sepulchres, which indeed appear beautiful outward, but are within full of dead men's bones, and of all uncleanness.
5. Even so they also outwardly appear righteous unto men, but within they were full of hypocrisy and iniquity.
6. And he saith unto us; That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven.
7. He taught his disciples, the twelve and all those that followed him wither he went; and all the women that ministered unto him of their substance; in secret openest their eyes to the meaning of the parables.
8. There was a day, the disciples came, and said unto him, Why speakest thou unto them in parables?
9. He answered and said unto them, Because it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given.
10. For whosoever hath, to him shall be given, and he shall have more abundance:but whosoever hath not, from him shall be taken away even that he hath.
11. Therefore speak I to them in parables:because they seeing see not; and hearing they hear not, neither do they understand.
12. And in them is fulfilled the prophecy of Esaias, which saith, By hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing ye shall see, and shall not perceive:
13. For this people's heart is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they have closed; lest at any time they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and should understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them.
14. But blessed are your eyes, for they see:and your ears, for they hear.
15. For verily I say unto you, That many prophets and righteous men have desired to see those things which ye see, and have not seen them; and to hear those things which ye hear, and have not heard them.
16. Some of the greatest parables ever spoken by Christ Jesus, are they not;
17. The parable of the sower; which he spake of four different kinds of men's heart when they hear the word of the kingdom.
18. Unto the kingdom of heaven spake he of the parable of the wheat amongst tares; and the parable of a grain of mustard seed; and of the parable of the leaven.
19. And against covetousness spake he the parable of the rich fool.
20. Spake he also of the parable of the barren fig tree.
21. And it came to pass, as he went into the house of one of the chief Pharisees to eat bread on the sabbath day, that they watched him.
22. After he had healed a man before them of dropsy spake he two parables; the parable of the wedding feast and also the parable of the great banquet.
23. Then drew near unto him all the publicans and sinners for to hear him.
24. And the Pharisees and scribes murmured, saying, This man receiveth sinners, and eateth with them.
25. And he spake unto them, the parable of the lost sheep; and the parable of the lost coin. And also of the prodigal son.
26. And unto his disciple he taught the parable of the dishonest steward.
27. Also on one of his journeys, as he went to Jerusalem, that he passed through the midst of Samaria and Galilee.
28. And as he entered into a certain village, there met him ten men that were lepers, which stood afar off:
29. He healed them ten and were made whole but there was not found that returned to give glory to God, save one.
30. And it came to pass that the Pharisees came unto him.
31. And when he was demanded of the Pharisees, when the kingdom of God should come, after he had answered them;
32. And he spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint; he spake the parable of the widow that troubleth a judge, to avenge her of her adversary.
33. He also spake of the parable of the ten pounds the day he cometh through Jericho; because he was nigh to Jerusalem , and because they thought that the kingdom of God should immediately appear.
34. Also spake he the parable of the husbandmen as he taught the people in the temple, and preached the gospel, the chief priests and the scribes came upon him with the elders.
35. And spake unto him, saying, Tell us, by what authority doest thou these things? or who is he that gave thee this authority?
36. Many of his parables, and teachings were written of by his disciples;even Matthew; who was a publican, and Mark; and Luke and John.
Chapter 11
1. And Jesus going up to Jerusalem took his disciples apart in the way. And when they drew nigh unto Jerusalem, and were come to Bethphage, unto the mount of Olives, then sent Jesus two disciples,
2. Saying unto them, Go into the village over against you, and straightway ye shall find an ass tied, and a colt with her:loose them, and bring them unto me.
3. And if any man say ought unto you, ye shall say, The Lord hath need of them; and straightway he will send them.
4. All this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying,
5. Tell ye the daughter of Sion, Behold, thy King cometh unto thee, meek, and sitting upon an ass, and a colt the foal of an ass.
6. And the disciples went, and did as Jesus commanded them,
7. And brought the ass, and the colt, and put on them their clothes, and they set him thereon.
8. And a very great multitude spread their garments in the way; others cut down branches from the trees, and strawed them in the way.
9. And the multitudes that went before, and that followed, cried, saying, Hosanna to the Son of David:Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord; Hosanna in the highest.
10. And when he was come into Jerusalem, all the city was moved, saying, Who is this?
11. And the multitude said, This is Jesus the prophet of Nazareth of Galilee.
12. And we went with Jesus into the temple of God,
13. For the front of the temple of God was full of merchants and all of them that sold and bought in the temple.
14. It was like unto a market that it seemeth not unto the temple of God. For they were merchants:they traded in the front of the temple as it were market.
15. There were merchants that traded wheat of Minnith, and Pannag, and honey, and oil, and balm.
16. And also were there merchants from Arabia, and all the princes of Kedar, they occupied with lambs, and rams, and goats:in these were they merchants. And there were beasts that were sold and bought and moved into the temple for sacrifice. Also were there doves.
17. And were there merchants of Sheba and Raamah, they occupied with chief of all spices, and with all precious stones, and gold:in these were they merchants.
18. And there were merchants from Syria:they occupied with emeralds, purple, and broidered work, and fine linen, and coral, and agate:in these were they merchants.
19. There were merchants in all sorts of things, in blue clothes, and broidered work, and in chests of rich apparel, bound with cords, and made of cedar, among thy merchandise.
20. Besides those that bought and sold, were the publicans for they go about their business moving from table to table and merchant to merchant collecting taxes.
21. Amongst whom were those who maketh gain by dishonest means. And also were there thieves that walk through the cluster of people; that steal and fleeth away secretly.
22. There were merchants:they that traded persons of men and vessels of brass in the market.
23. And he cast out all them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the moneychangers, and the seats of them that sold doves,
24. And said unto them, It is written, My house shall be called the house of prayer; but ye have made it a den of thieves.
25. And the blind and the lame came to him in the temple; and he healed them.
26. And when the chief priests and scribes saw the wonderful things that he did, and the children crying in the temple, and saying, Hosanna to the Son of David; they were sore displeased,
27. And said unto him, Hearest thou what these say? And Jesus saith unto them, Yea; have ye never read, Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings thou hast perfected praise?
28. And he left them, and went out of the city into Bethany; and he lodged there.
29. Now when Jesus was in Bethany, in the house of Simon the leper,
30. There came unto him a woman having an alabaster box of very precious ointment, and poured it on his head, as he sat at meat.
31. But when his disciples saw it, they had indignation, saying, To what purpose is this waste?
32. For this ointment might have been sold for much, and given to the poor.
33. When Jesus understood it, he said unto them, Why trouble ye the woman? for she hath wrought a good work upon me.
34. For ye have the poor always with you; but me ye have not always.
35. For in that she hath poured this ointment on my body, she did it for my burial.
36. Verily I say unto you, Wheresoever this gospel shall be preached in the whole world, there shall also this, that this woman hath done, be told for a memorial of her.
Chapter 12
1. Now the feast of unleavened bread drew nigh, which is called the Passover.
2. And the chief priests and scribes sought how they might kill Jesus; for they feared the people.
3. Now the first day of the feast of unleavened bread the disciples came to Jesus, saying unto him, Where wilt thou that we prepare for thee to eat the passover?
4. And he said, Go into the city to such a man, and say unto him, The Master saith, My time is at hand; I will keep the passover at thy house with my disciples.
5. And the disciples did as Jesus had appointed them; and the women that followed Jesus made ready the passover.
6. Now when the even was come, he sat down with the twelve.
7. And as they did eat, he said, Verily I say unto you, that one of you shall betray me.
8. And they were exceeding sorrowful, and began every one of them to say unto him, Lord, is it I?
9. And he answered and said, He that dippeth his hand with me in the dish, the same shall betray me.
10. The Son of man goeth as it is written of him:but woe unto that man by whom the Son of man is betrayed! it had been good for that man if he had not been born.
11. Then Judas, which betrayed him, answered and said, Master, is it I? He said unto him, Thou hast said.
12. And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and blessed it, and brake it, and gave it to the disciples, and said, Take, eat; this is my body.
13. And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, Drink ye all of it;
14. For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.
15. But I say unto you, I will not drink henceforth of this fruit of the vine, until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father's kingdom.
16. And when they had sung an hymn, they went out into the mount of Olives.
17. Then saith Jesus unto them, All ye shall be offended because of me this night:for it is written, I will smite the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock shall be scattered abroad.
18. But after I am risen again, I will go before you into Galilee.
19. Peter answered and said unto him, Though all men shall be offended because of thee, yet will I never be offended.
20. Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, That this night, before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice.
21. Then cometh Jesus with them unto a place called Gethsemane, to pray. We, the women stayed behind to clean up the table.
22. It was told unto us that one of the twelve, called Judas Iscariot, went unto the chief priest.
23. And said unto them, What will ye give me, and I shall deliver him unto you, even the man Jesus whom thou seeketh? And they covenanted with him for thirty pieces of silver.
24. And from that time he sought opportunity to betray him.
25. And when Jesus went unto Gethsemane with the twelve to pray with the twelve. Whilst He took with with him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee to go pray for he was heavy and sorrowful.
26. Lo Judas, one of the twelve went unto the chief priests and sad unto them If thou must seize my master, it is tonight. For I shall deliver my master unto you this even for he is heavy and sorrowful.
27. For the crowd that followeth him wither he goeth are in their houses for it is night and it is unto us all the Passover.
28. And the chief priests and the elders of the people gathered a great multitude with swords and with staves.
29. And they all marched unto where Jesus and disciples were like an army that marcheth unto battle.
30. And they sang Israel's battle songs; the ones Joshua sang; the ones David sang;the ones Jehoshaphat sang, ones Hezekiah sang. And they shout as they marched forth.
31. And it came to pass, they got to Gethsemane,
32. That same hour Jesus cometh he to his disciples, and saith unto them, Sleep on now, and take your rest:behold, the hour is at hand, and the Son of man is betrayed into the hands of sinners.
33. Rise, let us be going:behold, he is at hand that doth betray me.
34. And while he yet spake, lo, Judas, one of the twelve, came, and with him a great multitude with swords and staves, from the chief priests and elders of the people.
35. Now he that betrayed him gave them a sign, saying, Whomsoever I shall kiss, that same is he:hold him fast.
36. And forthwith he came to Jesus, and said, Hail, master; and kissed him.
37. And Jesus said unto him, Friend, wherefore art thou come? Then came they, and laid hands on Jesus, and took him.
38. And, behold, one of them which were with Jesus stretched out his hand, and drew his sword, and struck a servant of the high priest's, and smote off his ear.
39. Then said Jesus unto him, Put up again thy sword into his place:for all they that take the sword shall perish with the sword.
40. Thinkest thou that I cannot now pray to my Father, and he shall presently give me more than twelve legions of angels?
41. But how then shall the scriptures be fulfilled, that thus it must be?
42. In that same hour said Jesus to the multitudes, Are ye come out as against a thief with swords and staves for to take me? I sat daily with you teaching in the temple, and ye laid no hold on me.
43. But all this was done, that the scriptures of the prophets might be fulfilled. Then all the disciples forsook him, and fled.
44. And they that had laid hold on Jesus led him away to Caiaphas the high priest, where the scribes and the elders were assembled.
Chapter 13
1. It was midnight, and the disciples returned not with Jesus. They ran unto us, breaking the door like thieves that fleeth away from the Roman soldiers:and unto like a prey that runneth away from the claw and the teeth of a great lion.
2. Their hearts panteth and their strength faileth them and they were like unto dumb men that canst not speak but wavereth their hands.
3. Only two of his disciples came unto us, that night. They were:James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother;
4. We could not understand what sayest they unto us for they panteth even more and feared greatly.
5. We comforted them and gave the two water to drink. And they calmed down.
6. And then they said unto us all that has happened that night. How Judas had betrayed Jesus that same night; that Jesus spake of it after he had given them the bread and the wine to eat and to drink. But didst not tell who.
7. And how the chief priests and the elders of the people came with great multitude with swords and with staves. And how they took Jesus away from them in Gethsemane where they prayed.
8. The other women started weeping and rolling on the floor.
9. I fell to the ground with my face and I was half dead.
10. And they poured water on my face and hit me. Then came Peter into the room, weeping. He cried greatly unto us telling us how he had denied The Lord thrice.
11. He also told us about Jesus, how he was blindfolded, and how the people in the council mocked him, and struck him on his face and spat on him. And Jesus did nothing.
12. The people also sought for his disciples to bring before the council but findest none.
13. And I was there I denied him for I feared they will kill me. After the third time I had denied him, the cock crowed.
14. And The Lord turned, and looked upon me. And I remembered the word of The Lord, how he had said unto me, before the cock crow, I shall deny him thrice.
15. And I went out of the council and wept bitterly. And I came here to confess unto you my sins.
16. Nobody went outside for a great fear fell on us that night. How canst this things be and The Lord did nothing to save himself. And we cried unto the Father in prayer and in supplications.
17. When it was the dawn, there arose a multitude of them, and led him unto Pilate.
18. His disciples were sore afraid for they remaineth in the room continuing in praying and in supplication. And the eight came and joined them save Judas Iscariot.
20. I, and Mary and her sister; Martha, and Joanna, and Susanna and other women followed in the crowd to see what will become of our Lord.
21. And when the crowd the led Jesus came unto Pilate.
22. They began to accuse him, saying, We found this fellow perverting the nation, and forbidding to give tribute to Caesar, saying that he himself is Christ a King.
23. And Pilate asked him, saying, Art thou the King of the Jews?
24. And he answered him and said, Thou sayest it.
25. Then said Pilate to the chief priests and to the people, I find no fault in this man.
26. And they were the more fierce, saying, He stirreth up the people, teaching throughout all Jewry, beginning from Galilee to this place. Then we held unto ourselves tightly, praying that the Father may guide the heart of Pilate that he may judge justly.
27. When Pilate heard of Galilee, he asked whether the man were a Galilaean.
28. And as soon as he knew that he belonged unto Herod's jurisdiction, he sent him to Herod, who himself also was at Jerusalem at that time.
29. Then the multitude of people led dragged Jesus with them to Herod.
30. And when Herod saw Jesus, he was exceeding glad:for he was desirous to see him of a long season, because he had heard many things of him; and he hoped to have seen some miracle done by him.
31. Then he questioned with him in many words; but he answered him nothing.
32. For Herod said unto him; If thou canst turn this dust that they become gold I set you free. Jesus answereth him not a word.
33. And the chief priests and scribes stood and vehemently accused him.
34. Herod said to him again: If truly thou didst those miracles been told me, even raised the dead, then turn the heart of thy accusers unto babes. But he answered him nothing.
35. He said unto Jesus again; If thou is the Christ that some say thou art and hast come to deliver the Jews;command this day that every Roman soldier and officer be dead this same hour; that the Jews shall crown thee their King. He replieth not.
36. And Herod with his men of war set him at nought, and mocked him, and arrayed him in a gorgeous robe, and sent him again to Pilate.
37. And the same day Pilate and Herod were made friends together:for before they were at enmity between themselves.
38. And Pilate, when he had called together the chief priests and the rulers and the people,
39. Said unto them, Ye have brought this man unto me, as one that perverteth the people:and, behold, I, having examined him before you, have found no fault in this man touching those things whereof ye accuse him:
40. No, nor yet Herod:for I sent you to him; and, lo, nothing worthy of death is done unto him.
41. I will therefore chastise him, and release him.
42. Now at that feast the governor was wont to release unto the people a prisoner, whom they would.
43. And they had then a notable prisoner, called Barabbas.
44. Therefore when they were gathered together, Pilate said unto them, Whom will ye that I release unto you? Barabbas, or Jesus which is called Christ?
45. For he knew that for envy they had delivered him.
46. When he was set down on the judgment seat, his wife sent unto him, saying, Have thou nothing to do with that just man: for I have suffered many things this day in a dream because of him.
47. But the chief priests and elders persuaded the multitude that they should ask Barabbas, and destroy Jesus.
48. The governor answered and said unto them, Whether of the twain will ye that I release unto you? They said, Barabbas.
49. Pilate saith unto them, What shall I do then with Jesus which is called Christ? They all say unto him, Let him be crucified.
50. And the governor said, Why, what evil hath he done? But they cried out the more, saying, Let him be crucified.
51. When Pilate saw that he could prevail nothing, but that rather a tumult was made, he took water, and washed his hands before the multitude, saying, I am innocent of the blood of this just person: see ye to it.
52. Then answered all the people, and said, His blood be on us, and on our children.
53. Then released he Barabbas unto them: and when he had scourged Jesus, he delivered him to be crucified.
54. We wept sore seeing these things as they happen.
Chapter 14
1. Then Judas, which had betrayed him, when he saw that he was condemned, repented himself, and brought again the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders,
2. Saying, I have sinned in that I have betrayed the innocent blood. And they said, What is that to us? see thou to that.
3. And he cast down the pieces of silver in the temple, and departed, and went and hanged himself.
4. And the chief priests took the silver pieces, and said, It is not lawful for to put them into the treasury, because it is the price of blood.
5. And they took counsel, and bought with them the potter's field, to bury strangers in.
6. Wherefore that field was called, The field of blood, unto this day.
7. Then was fulfilled that which was spoken by Jeremiah the prophet, saying, And they took the thirty pieces of silver, the price of him that was valued, whom they of the children of Israel did value;
8. And gave them for the potter's field, as the Lord appointed me.
9. And it came to pass, the soldiers of the governor took Jesus into the common hall, and gathered unto him the whole band of soldiers.
10. And they stripped him, and put on him a scarlet robe.
11. And when they had platted a crown of thorns, they put it upon his head, and a reed in his right hand:and they bowed the knee before him, and mocked him, saying, Hail, King of the Jews!
12. And they spit upon him, and took the reed, and smote him on the head.
13. As we followed the multitude unto the common hall, from the afar, outside the common hall, besides the noise the crowd made we heard the noise of a whip as loud as the thunder when it roareth.
14. And the voice of a man followed after each whip. He crieth loudly and groan in deep agony.
15. As the whipping continued for it faded not, the voice of the man became quiet as the midnight.
16. And as we got closer we heard the voices of the soldiers as they mocked the man whom they whippeth. They laughed him to scorn as those controlled by a strong drink.
17. Knowing it was Jesus, my heart fell out my chest for it was heavy.
18. The tears that escaped from my eyes were hot as molten steel.
19. I left the other women I walked with for we comforted each other not but wept bitterly.
20. I forced myself through the crowd to the front thereof; like unto the way of a serpent in the midst of rocks.
21. I fell to my knees what my eyes beheld.
22. Blood.
23. His scarlet gold soaked the common hall.
24. Chained to a wood, and been wept like unto a condemn criminal; a stubborn beast.
25. I ran unto him, his mother Mary followed me. As I came unto him I feared not what the soldiers might do to me. I stooped down and used my tears to wash off the blood on his face. For he drowneth in his own blood.
26. Mary, the mother of Jesus, came with me and took the whip one of the soldiers used on him for that soldier's whip touched her. The other women came also weeping and cleaning the battered body of Jesus that was soaked in his own blood. That hour the soldiers left to drink for they were tired of whipping him.
27. He was as one that had died and we wept bitterly even more as we cleaned the floor that was flooded with his blood with our clothes.
28. At that hour my tears stopped flowing like the blood stopped flowing in the woman with the issue of blood the day she touched the hem of his garment.
29. Death hast used his sting on us, I wailed.
30. Better was the people of Sodom and Gomorrah the day The Lord destroyed their city than unto us today. I crieth.
31. And after that the soldiers had drank enough. They came unto him and poured a drink on him and mocked him. They took the robe off from him, and put his own raiment on him, and led him away to crucify him.
32. Some of the women remained in the common hall to wash off his blood that flooded the hall.
33. But I followed after him so did his mother and Mary, the mother of James and Joses, and the mother of Zebedee's children.
Chapter 15
1. They gave him his cross to bear and they restrained us from coming to him any longer.
2. Since he could not bear it nor move a foot with it, they found a man of Cyrene, Simon by name: his they compelled to bear his cross.
3. As many times our Lord fell they compelled him to get up by whipping him. Every whip made us scream as if we were women.
4. His body was like unto the parched places in the wilderness. And as he crawled and walked so didst he soak the earth with his blood whithersoever he came to.
5. And there followed him a great company of people, and of women, which also bewailed and lamented him.
6. And when they were come unto a place called Golgotha, that is to say, a place of a skull,
7. They gave him vinegar to drink mingled with gall:and when he had tasted thereof, he would not drink.
8. And they dug the earth, unto three holes. For there were two other malefactors that was to be crucified also.
9. They laid them on their crosses and drove big nails through their hands to the cross and of the feet did they the same. They fastened them to the cross as a carpenter would with his nail and pieces of woods.
10. Seeing this his mother wailed even louder and she swam in her own tears.
11. They stood the cross in the holes they had dug and filled opening with earth.
12. After they had crucified him, and parted his garments, they cast lots:that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, They parted my garments among them, and upon my vesture did they cast lots.
13. And they sitting down they watched him there; And set up over his head his accusation written, THIS IS JESUS THE KING OF THR JEWS.
14. Then were there two thieves crucified with him, one on the right hand, and another on the left.
15. And they that passed by reviled him, wagging their heads,
16. And saying, Thou that destroyest the temple, and buildest it in three days, save thyself. If thou be the Son of God, come down from the cross.
17. Likewise also the chief priests mocking him, with the scribes and elders, said,
18. He saved others; himself he cannot save. If he be the King of Israel, let him now come down from the cross, and we will believe him.
19. He trusted in God; let him deliver him now, if he will have him:for he said, I am the Son of God.
20. Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them for they know not what they do.
21. And one of the malefactors which were hanged railed on him, saying, If thou be Christ, save thyself and us.
22. But the other answering rebuked him, saying, Dost not thou fear God, seeing thou art in the same condemnation?
23. And we indeed justly; for we receive the due reward of our deeds:but this man hath done nothing amiss.
24. And he said unto Jesus, Lord, remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom.
25. And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, Today shalt thou be with me in paradise.
26. And it was about the sixth hour, and there was a darkness over all the earth until the ninth hour.
27. And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?
28. Some of them that stood there, when they heard that, said, This man calleth for Elias.
29. And straightway one of them ran, and took a spunge, and filled it with vinegar, and put it on a reed, and gave him to drink.
30. The rest said, Let be, let us see whether Elias will come to save him.
31. Jesus, when he had cried again with a loud voice, yielded up the ghost.
32. And, behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent;
33. We were afar off beholding all.
34. Now when the centurion, and they that were with him, watching Jesus, saw the earthquake, and those things that were done, they feared greatly, saying, Truly this was the Son of God.
35. As the earth did quake and the rocks rent, everyone that watcheth scattered abroad. We ran into the house. We eateth not for what we have seen. For everyone mourneth.
36. And I encouraged them that were in the house with the words of Jesus. For he saith he will rise again after the third day. That the temple he spake unto us that he will destroy and build again the third day was himself. Jesus will rise again. I said to them.
37. When the even was come, there came a rich man of Arimathaea, named Joseph, who also himself was Jesus' disciple: same came unto us saying that he's going to Pilate to beg of the body of Jesus.
38. He went to Pilate, and begged the body of Jesus. Then Pilate commanded the body to be delivered.
39. And when Joseph had taken the body, he wrapped it in the sepulchre in a clean linen cloth,
40. And laid it in his own new tomb, which he had hewn out in the rock:and he rolled a great stone to the door of the sepulchre, and departed.
41. And that day was the preparation, and the sabbath drew on.
42. And I and other women, followed after, and beheld the sepulchre, and how his body was laid.
43. And we returned, and prepared spices and ointments; and rested the sabbath day according to the commandment of Moses.
44. Now the next day, that followed the day of the preparation, the chief priests and Pharisees came together unto Pilate,
45. Saying, Sir, we remember that that deceiver said, while he was yet alive, After three days I will rise again.
46. Command therefore that the sepulchre be made sure until the third day, lest his disciples come by night, and steal him away, and say unto the people, He is risen from the dead:so the last error shall be worse than the first.
47. Pilate said unto them, Ye have a watch:go your way, make it as sure as ye can.
48. So they went, and made the sepulchre sure, sealing the stone, and setting a watch.
Chapter 16
1. Now upon the first day of the week, very early in the morning, we came unto the sepulchre, bringing the spices which we had prepared, and certain others who came with us.
2. And we found the stone rolled away from the sepulchre.
3. And we entered in, and found not the body of the Lord Jesus. Some said the chief priest had stolen his body but I said unto them that he has risen.
4. And it came to pass, as some were much perplexed thereabout, behold, two men stood by them in shining garments: they were like unto the ones I saw the day Jesus delivered me of the devils.
5. We were afraid, and bowed down our faces to the earth, they said unto us, Why seek ye the living among the dead?
6. He is not here, but is risen:remember how he spake unto you when he was yet in Galilee,
7. Saying, The Son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again.
8. And we all remembered his words,
9. And we returned from the sepulchre, and told all these things unto the eleven, and to all the rest of his disciples.
10. Yea, it was I, Mary Magdalene, and Joanna, and Mary the mother of James, and other women that were with them, which told these things unto the apostles.
11. And our words seemed to the apostles as idle tales, and they believed us not.
12. Peter, arose immediately and ran unto the sepulchre; and stooping down, he beheld the linen clothes laid by themselves, and departed, wondering in himself at that which was come to pass.
13. And, behold, two of them went that same day to a village called Emmaus, which was from Jerusalem about threescore furlongs.
14. And they talked together of all these things which had happened.
15. And it came to pass, that, while they communed together and reasoned, Jesus himself drew near, and went with them.
16. But their eyes were holden that they should not know him.
17. But their eyes were holden that they should not know him.
18. And he said unto them, What manner of communications are these that ye have one to another, as ye walk, and are sad? And the one of them, whose name was Cleopas, answering said unto him, Art thou only a stranger in Jerusalem, and hast not known the things which are come to pass there in these days?
19. And he said unto them, What things? And they said unto him, Concerning Jesus of Nazareth, which was a prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people:
20. And how the chief priests and our rulers delivered him to be condemned to death, and have crucified him.
21. But we trusted that it had been he which should have redeemed Israel:and beside all this, to day is the third day since these things were done.
22. Yea, and certain women also of our company made us astonished, which were early at the sepulchre;
23. And when they found not his body, they came, saying, that they had also seen a vision of angels, which said that he was alive.
24. And certain of them which were with us went to the sepulchre, and found it even so as the women had said:but him they saw not.
25. Then he said unto them, O fools, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken:
26. Ought not Christ to have suffered these things, and to enter into his glory?
27. And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself.
28. And they drew nigh unto the village, whither they went:and he made as though he would have gone further.
29. But they constrained him, saying, Abide with us:for it is toward evening, and the day is far spent. And he went in to tarry with them.
30. And it came to pass, as he sat at meat with them, he took bread, and blessed it, and brake, and gave to them.
31. And their eyes were opened, and they knew him; and he vanished out of their sight.
32. And they said one to another, Did not our heart burn within us, while he talked with us by the way, and while he opened to us the scriptures?
33. And they rose up the same hour, and returned to Jerusalem, and found the eleven gathered together, and them that were with them,
34. Saying, The Lord is risen indeed, and hath appeared to Simon.
35. And they told what things were done in the way, and how he was known of them in breaking of bread.
36. And as they thus spake, Jesus himself stood in the midst of them, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you.
37. But they were terrified and affrighted, and supposed that they had seen a spirit.
38. And he said unto them, Why are ye troubled? and why do thoughts arise in your hearts?
39. Behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myself:handle me, and see; for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see me have.
40. And when he had thus spoken, he shewed them his hands and his feet.
41. And while they yet believed not for joy, and wondered, he said unto them, Have ye here any meat?
42. And they gave him a piece of a broiled fish, and of an honeycomb.
43. And he took it, and did eat before them.
44. And he said unto them, These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me.
45. Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures,
46. And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day:
47. And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.
48. And ye are witnesses of these things.
49. And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you:but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high.
50. And he led them out as far as to Bethany, and he lifted up his hands, and blessed them.
51. And it came to pass, while he blessed them, he was parted from them, and carried up into heaven.
52. And they worshipped him, and returned to Jerusalem with great joy:
53. And were continually in the temple, praising and blessing God. Amen.
Chapter 17
1. And in those days Peter stood up in the midst of the disciples and we were about an hundred and twenty.
2. And for the place of Judas who betrayed our Lord; lot was cast between Joseph called Barsabas, who was surnamed Justus and Matthias.
3. And we prayed, and said; Thou Lord, which knowest the heart of all men, shew whether of these two thou hast chosen.
4. And the lot fell on Matthias, thus, he was numbered with the eleven apostles.
5. Yea, and yea I partook of the Pentecost.
6. For when it was to us the day of Pentecost. We were all with one accord in one place.
7. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where we were sitting.
8. And there appeared unto us cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of us.
9. And we were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave us utterance.
10. Beside the day Jesus did delivered me of the seven devils; the day of Pentecost was the most joyous day of my life.
11. And every other day the spirit of The Lord would visit us was a visitation from heaven.
12. I was born in evil yea the devil did conceived me. But thanks be to my Saviour who delivered my soul from the flames of hell.
13. And to my uncle, yea, to his family for they told me about Jesus; they gave me hope again when I was already been seen as nought in the hands of Beelzebub.
14. Glory to God who healed my mother of blindness and dumbness the day I laid my hands on her and prayed with tears.
15. And it was The Lord at it again, that my dad came to know Jesus before he died.
16. And my sisters will live longer than I, to share with you all what I have written on this papers. This bed has been good unto me also.
17. For today I know I shall go see my deliverer, my redeemer, the Bishop of my soul.
18. Peace be to the brethren, love with faith, from God the Father and The Lord Jesus Christ.
19. Grace be with all them that love our Lord Jesus Christ in sincerity.
20. And my love be with you all in Christ Jesus.
21. To God only wise, be glory through Jesus Christ forever.
22. Amen.
